Will Google Phone Beat Out iPhone for Internet Marketing? Google Phone For Marketing Has Some Great Potential!

by Charlotte Raab Charlotte Raab Tue Sep 23, 1:27 pm ET

NEW YORK (AFP) – Internet search leader Google took a giant leap into the mobile phone market on Tuesday, unveiling a handset developed with telecom carrier T-Mobile to compete with Apple's hot-selling iPhone.

The T-Mobile G1, the first mobile device powered by Google's open-source Android software, will be available in stores in the United States on October 22 and will cost 179 dollars.

Cole Brodman, T-Mobile chief technology and innovation officer, called the G1, built by the Taiwanese firm HTC, a "game-changing" device which will "power a new mobile Internet of the future."

The G1, which is a bit thicker but slightly narrower than an iPhone, will go on sale in Britain in early November and in other European countries served by T-Mobile, a subsidiary of Germany's Deutsche Telekom AG, in early 2009.

The G1 offers many of the features of the iPhone and Research in Motion's popular BlackBerry including a touch screen similar to that of the iPhone, a trackball for navigation, high-speed Internet browsing, Wi-Fi, e-mail, instant messaging and SMS texting.

It has a 3.0-megapixel camera with photo-sharing capability and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a feature lacking on the iPhone.

Internet retail giant Amazon.com announced shortly before the G1 release, in a direct challenge to Apple's iTunes, that the entire catalog of the Amazon MP3 music store would be available on the new phone.

The new phone has, unsurprisingly, been closely integrated with Google applications such as Google Maps and G-Mail and can display videos from YouTube, the video-sharing site purchased by Google in 2006.

"Google's strategy is all about broad reach for their services," said Charles Golvin, an analyst at Forrester Research. "It's just the first step in a long strategic voyage for Google."

Carolina Milanesi, research director at Gartner Consulting, agreed.

"Google is moving into the mobile devices market not to become yet another mobile phone manufacturer but to enable a large addressable market for its services and applications," she said.

"The G1 is the first of a series of devices that will come to market and will be optimized to offer consumers a superior experience when using Google services and applications."

Google hopes the open-source Android software powering the G1 will eventually become the dominant operating system for mobile phones and make handsets compatible with the networks of multiple carriers.

"A developer will be able to use it as a platform," said Andy Rubin, senior director of mobile platforms for Google. "A developer will be able to modify the platform and make it better."

"It's very exciting for me as a computer geek to have a phone that I can play with and modify," said Google co-founder Sergey Brin, who made a surprise appearance at the launch event.

The phone, Google's first foray into the highly competitive mobile phone market, also will allow users to access the Android Market, where they can download software applications from developers around the world.

Are You On Twitter? Top Marketers are Driving Traffic for Free using Twitter

By now, you may or may not have already heard
about the New BIG player in Social Media
Marketing service, Twitter, and I've been
getting a lot of inquiry and questions about
this Amazing Tool that can effectively
aid you in your communications with your
target market.

If you already know what Twitter is and
already using Twitter to support your marketing
objectives, then this training may not be
of too much interest to you......however
below you will find some *JUICY* videos
which Exposes you to some little know Underground
Marketing Strategies that some power users are
dominating with....

And...

You'll also learn some *KEY* website links
and *SECRET SOURCES* for Twitter that will
equip you to increase and grow your traffic
and exposure....

Now for all of you that don't know what the
heck I'm talking about when you hear me say
Twitter...then this will truly be of value
to you and open your eyes to a brand new
frontier of marketing possibilities!

Let's start with the question of...

What is Twitter?

Well, simply put...Twitter is a free social
networking and micro-blogging service that
allows its users to send and read other users'
updates (otherwise known as tweets), which are
text-based posts of up to 140 characters
in length.

Updates are displayed on the user's profile
page and delivered to other users who have
signed up to receive them. The sender can restrict
delivery to those in his or her circle of friends
(delivery to everyone being the default).

Users can receive updates via the Twitter website,
SMS, RSS, email or through an application such
as Twitterrific or Facebook.

So what does this have to do with helping
your marketing efforts and Personal Branding
you may ask?

Well here are 7 quick strategies you can
use Twitter immediately for...

1. Extending the reach for marketers, businesses
and companies that already have a blogging strategy
in place, and want to deepen or further ties
with their audience.

2. Marketers announcing promo's and deals.
Perfect Example: Deals on Dells. Blue light specials
at Amazon. 23 minutes left before discounted
price is gone forever!

3. Increasing your ability for frequent updates
to blogs or web sites or news like The NY Times,
CNN, FOX, BBC, and those of us here at
MindsetAndMarketing.com ;)

4. Building consensus or a community of supporters.
Perfect Examples: Presidential candidates John McCain
and Barack Obama.

5. Building Buzz. Example: UndergroundMarketingTips
introduces a new blog.

6. Updating breaking news at conferences or events.
Perfect Example was when Steve Jobs was speaking to
the crowd at the Moscone Center in San Francisco
and was announcing the next generation of Apple’s
mobile operating system and its mobile phone device.
The secrecy and buzz that is built around these
keynote speeches have always given a boost in the
traditional media to the announcements that Jobs
makes that day and therefore boost sales the day
that products finally reach the shelves.

The online real-time following of the event takes
place through blogs, Twitter and Twitter tools,
generating an enormous amount of Apple-related
content and opinions before, during and after the
event.

During a Steve Jobs’ keynote, Twitter traffic is
10 times greater than usual. Within an hour of the
end of the keynote, the majority of the Twitter
community is aware that on July 11th, 2008,
the new iPhone will be available at stores with a
price of $199. This is how Apple will benefit from the
Twitter/keynote combined madness and is also an
example of the potential of Twitter for viral
marketing efforts.

7. Updating your network to shape your own personal branding.
From a personal brand building and networking standpoint,
the key isn't to look at Twittering as individual posts,
but think of the overall impressions and value that can be
created over time. Each 140 character or less entry serves
as a seed of an idea for an overall objective.

Consider an overall objective and keep that
in mind as decisions are made about what kinds of
personal information, links to useful resources and
promotional items are posted. Over time, you’ll build
a footprint and identify within the Twitter community.

Building that footprint will be far more effective
if you keep your overall objectives in mind, rather than
random information.

The simplicity and ease of use is also what is
very attractive!

At a Laker's game last night, I was able to
edit a Twitter page for another project and launch
Twitter communications LIVE, on location from our
Box Suite at the Staples Center via my
Audiovox VX8600 Pocket PC mobile phone!

I then reported in real time quarterly scores
and action that took place during the game
as it happened!

This proves the power of Mass Instant Messaging
to your audience and this is just the beginning
of tapping into what's truly possible with
Twitter.

Did your MySpace Account get DELETED? If not, BEWARE!

Hey there Underground Marketers....

Did your MySpace Account get Deleted?

Or have you heard of someone else who is marketing on MySpace
that recently got their account deleted?

If not, you will really appreciate some of the *Insiders*
information I was able to come across regarding some
Major changes with this social networking platform,
which may be the reason for some of these accounts
being deleted.

First of all, if you do not have some kind of marketing presence
on MySpace, WHY NOT!?

Quick fact for you....

To give you an idea of the kind of power and influence
that Tom Anderson has with his 237,991,950 friends and growing...
When he asks members for feedback, he usually gets
around 20,000 responses in under 10 minutes!

Now just imagine, you growing a large friends list
directed to a specific niche market which would benefit
from your company's product or service, and you create
a loyal following and have constant communication with
your friends list like Tom does....you too can have
influence and exposure over a targeted market following.

And...the truth is...you do not even need to have millions of
friends, not even hundreds of thousands in your friends
list....key is to have a laser targeted list built and constant
communication with your friends on the list to build the
*TRUST* factor.....and not be there to just try and
"Pitch & Sale" like so many newbie MySpace Marketers
do daily.....

Anyways, if you don't even understand what I'm
talking about with marketing on MySpace, then you will
not truly appreciate what I'm going to expose here as
much as those who have already tapped into this
FREE.way to generate business leads and traffic
to your web properties.

If you are wanting to learn more about effectively
tapping into the power of this social networking
platform to benefit your business, be watching out
for future teachings on this from me and some of
my Underground Marketing Experts I'll be
soon exposing you to.

Ok...so on to the good stuff...

There are some extreme changes that are on the
horizon at the MySpace home front, many of
which may impact your marketing activities if
not already.

With Facebook surging, the founders of MySpace
Chris DeWolfe and Tom Anderson have gone back
to their roots, which is music, pop culture, and a Proven
Cash-Flow Ad Model....all of which is planned to
spark the next phase of growth for their portal
since their website launch!

Can you believe it.....Myspace is almost
four and a half years old!

I just found out that Amit Kapur, the 27 year old
Chief Operating Officer for MySpace, shared that
MySpace is profitable and have 115 million monthly
visitors worldwide. They are also outpacing Gmail and Hotmail
in messages sent and giving YouTube a run for its money
in video downloads.

Did you catch what I just said in regards to the amount
of monthly visitors worldwide...AND have more messages
being sent then Gmail and Hotmail!?!?

As a marketer, this should open your eyes to some expanded
possibilities with communicating with your market.

Anyways, these are some pretty important facts for you as a
marketer to be aware of.

Why? Because as the battle between MySpace and Facebook
continues, you must understand that there is a completely
different split of cultures between the two social network sites.

I confirmed with several sources that it looks like there will
be an imminent site redesign which will be happening
soon and major marketing alliances with big-name brands.

MySpace is rolling out in early fall of 2008 an
unprecedented new foray into the music business, and
MySpace revealed that it is no longer a social network
at all, but very soon, a complete "Social Portal": a global,
content-rich hub with a social component.

Both of the founders are saying that a "Social Network is so 2005"!

MySpace was conceived out of the Los Angeles entertainment
and music scene, where creativity is prized and voyeurism of
all kinds is considered a perfectly normal way to have fun.

If the growing in more popularity Facebook, emphasizes the
efficient sharing of personal information and fights hard
to make sure that people are who they say they are on
the site, MySpace has always had a more looser vibe,
allowing users freedom to be a more "stylized", even
"fictionalized" version of themselves.

And if Google desires an organized world to help you find
what you search for more effectively, MySpace wants you
to stumble around and discover things you didn't know
you were looking for.

Does this bring a little light to the difference of
demographics between the two cultures that you may be playing in?

Demographic studies are extremely important whenever
launching any kind of marketing campaign or presence...and
if you do not properly understand the playground that you are
wanting to play in, you may find your game is either ineffective
or you may even be asked to leave the field so to speak....

Hence....a lot of MySpace accounts and profiles being deleted
lately.

Here are some quick facts that I gathered for you which may
help you in understanding the two playgrounds of
MySpace and Facebook so that you can better strategies
your marketing objectives:

-Facebook's launch date was February 2004, MySpace in
January 2004.

-Facebook's worldwide visitors in May 2008 was 123.9 million,
up 162% from May 2007. MySpace's worldwide visitors was
114.6 million, up 5% from May 2007.

-Facebook's US visitors in May 2008 was 35.6 million,
up 34% from May 2007. MySpace's US visitors was 73.7 million,
up 7% from May 2007

As you can quickly see, Facebook launched only 1 month after
MySpace, but in the past year's time, has been drastically
growing in popularity over MySpace.

You must monitor what is happening here, if you are doing
anything on MySpace....or even Facebook for that matter.

Pay attention to what MySpace did in June 2008 with
their "Takeover" feature on their home page, which gets
approximately 45 million views a day....This is what is called
"advertainment" which offers marketers a "More Creative Palette"
so they can burn their messages into the user's minds.

Companies like McDonalds, Taco Bell, Sony with Movie releases etc.,
can own the page while MySpace users look at the content
allowing the advertiser to slap them in the face with their
incredible brand message.

If you are building a web property and banking on your equity
growing due to your massive traffic you generate to it...this
may be a nice revenue strategy to model after.

Did you know that approximately 90% of online-advertising
spending goes to big portals?

Because of MySpace's massive amounts of traffic on a daily basis,
they are now competing against Yahoo and MSN, not
just social networks.

While Google may dominate the search market, it isn't even close
to MySpace in terms of detailed information about what users
do and consume.....the holy grail of targeted marketing.

MySpace's social-advertising initiative, called HyperTargeting,
launched about nine months ago and is its version of the
"we know who you are and what ads you'll like" ploy.
I discovered that click-throughs and these ads are up 300%.

This tells me that there must be some kind of positive results
going on with this new strategy.

Did you know that MySpace has other portal-like tools too:
At about 60,000 video uploads a day, it is becoming a popular
alternative to Youtube. (Myspace had approximately 55 million
unique video viewers in May 2008, according to comScore
Video Metrix, versus 82 million for Youtube.)

Side note....Have you been utilizing the MySpace Video
platform as well? We have tested some MySpace Videos
and found that some search engines respond to them
pretty well for rankings, if done properly.

MySpace will be releasing some pretty insane Webcam
Video Recording Features in a day or so which will allow
you to record videos directly onto MySpace using a webcam!
They're already working on the next phase where you'll
be able to post these videos directly into bulletins,
blogs, and MySpace messages as well as directly save
pictures taken with your Webcam.

Aside from user-generated videos, a buddy of mine shared
with me about MySpaceTV.

MySpaceTV is a massive project that MySpace has sub-contracted
the work out to my buddy's company that he owns, and I found out
that it has a huge universe of professional-grade content....from
Fox shows such as The Simpsons, to mini-episodes
of '80s sitcoms to National Geographic programs to an
election site called MySpace impact which offers broadcast
coverage from MSNBC and NBC.

About 20% to 30% of total traffic on MySpace is music traffic.

I found out that 10 senior staffers went with the CEO and President
to a daylong off-site in LA to map out their future.

They came away with a hefty list of priorities: a significant
site redesign, the long awaited developer's program, and a
stronger mobile business (an iPhone application already debuted
in July.)

But one of their main focuses right now is MUSIC!
They are launching MySpaceMusic, and will be competing
with iTunes.

So to bring all of this information I've shared
with you into more perspective for you and your business,
and how you can benefit from this valuable *insider's tips* about
the future coming changes with MySpace.....
here are some quick final points to help you out:

1. MySpace is making a strong move to get back to their
original roots of music and pop culture. This will naturally
have a strong attraction for the common demographic of
people that are into this.....so be aware of what you are
promoting and how you are promoting it to this breed of
people.

2. With a focus on a Proven Cash-Flow Ad Model, be expecting
to see a whole lot more Ads on MySpace. So it would make
good sense for you to clearly NOT be doing much "in your face"
advertising on your MySpace profile as users are pretty
much jaded from this and desire to truly connect with other
members as it was initially created for.....thus the words
"Social Networking"

3. MySpace is currently outpacing Gmail and Hotmail in
messages being sent online. With knowing this fact, you
can capitalize on how to effectively communicate with your
market in ways that are more acceptable to them for better
responsiveness. If you discover your client base is not
responding to your emails much anymore, you may want to
research if they are part of this growing number of users
online that prefer to communicate through MySpace
messages instead.

4. Knowing that there will be a major site redesign,
be very aware of all the new widgets, apps, and tools that
may be available to you or removed. This could also
be good for you to discover new hidden pockets of
opportunity to explore with improving your communication
with your list base as well as growing your networking
operation in the groups and forums etc..

5. MySpace Video is increasing in its popularity amongst the
user generated content crowd...so don't just be stuck
on YouTube to effectively reach out to your audience.

6. With MySpaceTV and MySpaceMusic on the rise, you
can expect more "watch dogs" on the look out for piracy and
copyrighted video and music content on profiles that
could lead to your MySpace Account being deleted.

I've had a large number of associates inform me of their
accounts being deleted....after hours and hours of time, sweat,
and tears...and for many, MONEY to build their profile.....and
what hurts the most is the loss of all of your Friends
which they tirelessly built up over time.

So the best way to be proactive in all that MySpace is
changing and updating, search the site for "Terms Of Use"
to know for yourself in writing what is acceptable and not.

More recently, I know that MySpace is really cracking down
on the use of Automated Friend Adding Softwares.....
so if you are one that uses these tools, you may want to
revamp your incorporation of this tool and proceed with caution.

So for all of you MySpace Marketers out there, I hope that
this report was resourceful and valuable to you and your
business.

Get Out Of Your Head & Get Into The Heads Of Those In Your Niche Market!

Hey Underground Marketers....

I just had a meeting with a pretty powerful man
who is a big player in the Non-Profit world,
and there were some Golden Keys of wisdom that I
took away from my time with him which will be extremely
helpful to you in building your businesses.

His name is Bob C. and lives and has his operation's
base in Newport Beach California.

A valuable lesson we discussed, which reedify one of
my teachings with Psychological Marketing, is the requirement
for Demographic and Market Research of your
clearly defined Niche Market.

Bob's business background was being a top dog
at Proctor & Gamble for many years in the research
division.

Much of his work in studying markets and research
for developments guided Proctor & Gambles
success with being a global giant and icon.

He has since left that world and entered the
Non Profit World where he's pursuing some passions he
has in coaching and training struggling
Non-Profit Organizations to effectively grow.

Bob shared with me how the Non-Profit arena is
completely different from the For-Profit World.

From a business development standpoint of
these Non-Profit Organizations, their psychological
makeup and reasons of WHY they think and do
WHAT they think and do, is a must to know before
working with any of them.

An interesting fact Bob exposed me to was that
there are twice the amounts of startups with Non-Profit
Organizations as there are in For-Profit Operations.

What I found interesting was that he said
there is so much more of a challenge with connecting
and working with big players in the Non-Profit World
because he had to quickly discover a new reality
in persuasion and influence in this new market he
was now doing business in.

He said that when it comes to business development and
sales and marketing for the Non-Profit world,
he has a responsibility of influencing deep pocketed
donors to give him 6 or 7 figure dollar contributions
to support a special cause or project.....then have
these donors expect nothing in return for that money...
and he said that the key was to do all of this
while allowing the donors to feel good about parting
with their wealth at the same time!

Now that right there is a great lesson in itself
and also a pretty challenging thing to accomplish
with having people part with large sums of money,
get nothing back in return for it, and be happy
about parting with that large sum of cash!

This really shows there is a lot more to the sales
process in regards to technique than that of a
traditional For-Profit sales transaction.

Another insider tip Bob exposed me to was that in
the Non-Profit world you do NOT use the words
Sales or Marketing...but instead Fund-Raising or
Contribution, which is all the same thing.

The Non-Profit World's organizations, donors and
supporters do not like to be associated with these
words of Sales or Marketing, and yet this is all they
are doing all day long.....selling and marketing their
organization's cause to acquire more support.

Having this kind of insider information was
extremely helpful to him BEFORE launching any kind
of marketing campaign or sales strategies in
this marketplace.

Bob's niche is training up other Non-Profit Managers
to Coach other full time managers for Non-Profit
Organizations in the Orange County area of
southern California.

He has clearly defined his niche, done heavy
due diligences and market/demographic research
on his targeted market, and is experiencing an amazing
impact in his own business growth and development.

This all supports my teachings of doing your research
and due diligence on your market and demographic
studies BEFORE you do anything else.

As a rule of thumb, I usually spend 80-85% of
my time in researching my target markets and
getting out of my head and into the head of my
clearly defined niche market.

I'm studying everything from what do they do, why do
they do it, what are their frustrations and passions,
to where do they hang out, what touch, moves and inspires
them and bottom line, what makes them tick.

When you go through this process, I can virtually
guarantee you that your marketing efforts will
have a more effective impact on your overall business
growth objectives. It will also make your marketing
life a whole lot more easier and make it more productive.

You definitely do not want to find yourself
selling fillet mignon to your customers...spending
thousands of dollars in marketing materials and
campaigns to prove why your fillet mignon is the
best quality meats and why they should purchase
from you....all the while not knowing that your
customers are vegans or vegetarians who don't
care about nor want your high quality meat product!

What a waste of time, money, efforts and resources!

Unfortunately, this is so common with new business
ventures and entrepreneurs starting out in this game.

Another benefit of really getting out of YOUR
Head and Into the Heads of Your Customers is that
you will discover WHAT the best way of COMMUNICATION
is with your client base and HOW to communicate
your message to them in the most effective way.

A quick example of this is when we were running
some marketing campaigns and started off with
communicating with a particular niche market through
emails only...

We were wondering why the responsive rates were
dramatically dropping with our target market
not responding to our offerings at the time.

This was about three and a half years ago when
MySpace was starting to take a strong market
share in communications with our particular
target market.

Because of constantly studying and knowing our
specific niche audience, we were able to quickly
adapt to begin communicating our messages not
only through just email, but also through
MySpace messaging as well....and wouldn't you
know....our response rates increased EXPONENTIALLY!

Imagine that, same audience, same marketing message,
but simply adjusting the WAY of communicating the message
in a form more natural or convenient to our audience
which they were more common or used to...ultimately
increasing response and conversion rates!

If you truly catch what I just shared here, you
could absolutely dominate your niche market just
by improving the WAY of how you communicate with
them...

Little hint for you...

Many people hardly check their MySpace messages now,
but yet increasingly checking their FaceBook messages
online...and now via cell phone or iPhone as well...

And....watch the trend that I'm monitoring....

If you want to be in direct contact with your client
base now days....emails are proving to be not
as effective as TEXT MESSAGING to your customer
base's cell phones!

Now be careful with this one...you must really
know and understand your particular market and client
base before incorporating this technology.

If you do not do your proper due diligence on your
niche and client base...you could really tick a lot
of your customers off and have a negative impact
on your communication efforts!

So bottom line...

The Golden Key to take away from today's lesson is
simply this...

GET OUT OF YOUR HEAD, AND GET INTO THE HEADS OF
YOUR TARGETED NICHE MARKET AND CUSTOMER BASE!

Pretty simple huh?

But yet very rarely done...

I challenge you to begin to do market research
and demographic studies on your niche and client
base, and I truly believe you will experience some
positive increase in your business growth and
development.

Massive Success Always,

Jason Okuma
